Nagasari

I don't know how to call this in English. Nagasari is an Indonesian snack, very soft with a piece of banana inside, usually wrapped in banana leaves. Nagasari has been one of my favorite snacks since I was a child.

Making Nagasari is so simple. For all cook-beginners, try this. You'll hardly fail.

Recipe:

(adapted from Jajan Pasar by Yasaboga)

2 big bananas
1 pack of Hunkwe flour
200 gr sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 L coconut milk
banana leaves or alumunium foil or transparent plastic to wrap

Methods:
1. Steam the bananas until soft.
2. Peel the bananas and cut into approx. 1 cm thick.
3. Mix the Hunkwe flour with a little bit of coconut milk.
4. Boil the rest of coconut milk, together with sugar, salt. When boiled, fold in the flour mixture, stir until thickened.
5. Take 1 piece of banana leaf, put 1 tbsp of the mixture, put 1 slice of banana, cover it again with 1 tbsp of mixture.
6. Wrap.
7. Let the Nagasari to cool before serving.

Notes:
1. You can get the Hunkwe flour from Asian stores. 1 pack of hunkwe flour weighs approx. 125 gr.
2. For the coconut milk, I used 1 can (400 ml) and 1 small box (200 ml). I then mixed it with water.
3. If you don't have steamer, you can soften the bananas using microwave.
4. It is much easier to use transparent plastic to wrap rather than alumunium foil. Well, it would be much better if you use banana leaves, but if you can't find one, just use transparent plastic or alumunium foil.
